OBJECTIVE

To analyze early phase of insulin secretion in healthy volunteers, patients with abdominal obesity, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as to investigate insulinotropic effect of Nagutskaya-26 mineral water for assessing its possible preventive potential regarding insulin resistance.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study included 20 healthy volunteers, 20 patients with abdominal obesity, 20 ones with metabolic syndrome and 20 ones with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. All patients underwent oral glucose tolerance test (glucose dissolved in drinking and mineral water). We analyzed insulin secretion and blood glucose concentration, as well as calculated the area under insulinemia and glycemia curves in early and late phase of glucose tolerance test.

RESULTS

Increased insulin resistance is accompanied by decrease in early phase of insulin secretion with worsening of glucose tolerance. A single dose of medium-mineralized water Nagnutskaya-26 rehabilitates early phase of insulin secretion and optimizes glucose homeostasis in glucose tolerance test. However, this reaction is consistently attenuated with increased insulin resistance.

CONCLUSION

Perhaps, a course intake of mineral water can act not only as a therapeutic factor for correction of insulin regulation of carbohydrate metabolism, but also for prevention of complications following increase in insulin resistance.
