Various modes of regional anesthesia (RA) during cesarean section were studied in 74 patients, including 35 women undergoing combined spinal-epidural anesthesia, 22 under epidural anesthesia, and 17 under spinal one. All the studies RA modes were found to have the same stress-protective properties and no negative impact on a newborn infant. Combined spinal-epidural anesthesia techniques have been devised, the advantage of which over epidural anesthesia is to rapidly result in a high block of pain sensitivity with the use of a lower-dose anesthetic and that of which over spinal anesthesia is to prolong anesthesia intra- and postoperatively.
