Emotional stress is a systemic reaction of the body and has a modulating effect on pain sensitivity. In studies devoted to the study of the mechanisms of formation of pain reactions during emotional stress, conflicting data were obtained on the direction and degree of changes in pain sensitivity. It has been established that exposure to acute stress leads to a decrease in pain sensitivity in mammals — stress analgesia. On the other hand, with repeated or chronic stress loads, stress-induced hyperalgesia occurs. An analysis of the results of experimental and clinical studies illustrating the effect of stress on pain sensitivity is promising in terms of developing new approaches to the prevention and correction of pain syndromes under emotional impact.
