Antiepileptic drugs (AED) are currently used for neuropathic pain and migraine along with other drugs. An efficacy of gabapentin and pregabalin for post-herpetic neuralgia and diabetic neuropathy, as well as divalproex sodium/sodium valproate and topiramate for prevention of migraine has led to expansion of clinical researches of new peptides for the treatment of these diseases. Levetiracetam and zonisamide are currently studied in multiple-center trials devoted to treatment and prevention of migraine. Oxcarbazepine, eslicarbazepine acetate, topiramate, zonisamide, levetiracetam, lacosamide, pregabalin are analyzed in treatment of neuropathic pain. There are interesting data on similar efficacy of zonisamide and topiramate for prevention of migraine, especially for those with a weak tolerance of topiramate. Levetiracetam is the simplest for administration and causes the least number of side effects. This review is devoted to some third-generation AED in the treatment of neuropathic pain and migraine.
