Fibromyalgia is characterized by a combination of chronic widespread muscle pain and various concomitant psychosomatic symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, general stiffness, depression, anxiety and cognitive disorders. The prevalence of fibromyalgia in general population varies from 2% to 4%. Despite the achievements of recent decades, fibromyalgia is still a poorly diagnosed and difficult-to-treat disease. The purpose of this review is to summarize recent literature data on pathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical presentation, evidence-based methods of pharmacotherapy and non-drug treatment of fibromyalgia.
