Objective - to optimize systemic therapy in patients with bacterial vaginosis, by increasing the recommended duration of its treatment and by choosing a drug causing fewer side effects. Subject and methods. Ninety-three patients aged 18 to 45 years with bacterial vaginosis were examined. A control group consisted of 16 women without clinical signs of bacterial vaginosis. A clinical method, microscopic vaginal smear examination, and real-time polymerase chain reaction by the Femoflor test to quantify bacterial DNA. Different regimens using tiberal (ornidazole) with the fewest side effects (OAO "Asfarma") as 500 mg (a tablet) twice daily for 10 days and 500 mg twice daily for 5 days were studied in two subgroups. Tinidazole was used as 2 tablets (1000 mg) once daily for 5 days in Subgroup 3. Results. The use of a 10-day (instead of the recommended 5-day) tiberal regimen in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis was ascertained to contribute to the patients' status normalization, their considerably reduced rate of unfavorable reactions associated with the adverse reactions of the drug, as well as recovered vaginal physiological microbiocenosis. Conclusion. This therapy option is etiologically and pathogenetically sound, substantially reducing the risk of disease recurrence.
