Abstract:

Clinical and/or biochemical data suggesting androgen excess in postmenopausal women require careful differential diagnosis to make a correct diagnosis. Physicians should be able to distinguish between the changes characteristic for normal and abnormal aging processes in elderly women. This paper discusses the evaluation and treatment of hirsutism and hyperandrogenism in postmenopausal women. Androgen excess can have long-term negative health effects and, therefore, should be detected and treated.
