Abstract:

The paper describes a clinical observation of a pregnant woman with low-risk hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. However, pregnancy was complicated by right ventricular failure that had been caused by interventricular septal bulging into the right ventricle with its outflow tract stenosis. Particular emphasis is placed upon not only the relative rarity of this complication, but also the first clinical and instrumental signs of right ventricular failure. The found significant worsening of health in the early postpartum period is associated with the elimination of uterine compression of the inferior vena cava and with enhanced blood supply to the right heart chambers to develop total heart failure. Along with the conventional criteria for evaluating the severity of prognosis in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the dimensions of the right heart chambers and the symptoms of right ventricular failure are proposed to be kept in mind. The paper discusses the current drugs used to treat pulmonary hypertension, as well as traditional therapy for heart failure, which is vital to practical health care.
