The questionnaire survey of 766 medical academy students revealed the clinical symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in 21.3% of cases. More than half of the girls were found to have mild PMS; its moderate course was identified slightly less frequently (41.1%). Severe PMS was detected in 4.9% of the students. The incidence of PMS showed a 3.75% increase from the first to the sixth year of study. The mean number of cases of premenstrual dysphoric disorders (PMDD) was 10.6%, by also increasing significantly from the first to the sixth years of study. The edematous form of PMS was more common in first-to-third-year students and its neuropsychic and cephalgic forms were more frequent in senior students. Academic activity was lowered in 24.3% of the students with the clinical manifestations of PMS and in 36.5% of those with PMDD. The use of mastodynon in patients with severe PMS promoted the regression of symptoms, such as mastodynia, headache, and fluid retention, as well as the recovery of academic activity.
