The efficiency of three ovulation stimulation regimens in assisted reproductive technology programs was comparatively studied in 50 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and 30 patients with a poor ovarian response to gonadotropins. The authors compared the efficacy of recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone used alone and in combination with human menopausal gonadotropin, recombinant luteinizing hormone, and low-dose human chorionic gonadotropin. Addition of luteinizing activity drugs at the final stages of folliculogenesis is shown to reduce the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in patients with PCOS and to improve an ovarian response when the latter to gonadotropin stimulation is inadequate.
