In Russia in late 2019, a total of 258.794 people diagnosed with prostate cancer (PC) were followed up, whereas there were 40.986 new cases of PC. Its mortality rates annually increase in Russia. Various non-surgical treatment options do not always lead to a complete cure of patients with PC, which is later manifested by the development of a local recurrence of the disease or the occurrence of distant metastases. The surgical treatment with salvage prostatectomy can be used in PC patients with a local recurrence after radiation therapy or ablative therapies. This paper provides a review of the literature concerning the problem of salvage surgery in patients with local PC recurrence after local treatment.
