OBJECTIVE

To assess QoL using various questionnaires in newly diagnosed precapillary pulmonary hypertension.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study included 46 patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (median age 42 years, women 73.9%). All the patients filled out QoL questionnaires: universal (SF-36, EQ-5D-3L) and special for patients with PH (CAMPHOR, PAH-SYMPACT, EmPHasis-10).

RESULTS

The SF-36 questionnaire demonstrated low values of physical and psychological components of health, as well as role-physical functioning. In EQ-5D-3L, most patients have moderate impairments in scales mobility and usual activities. There was a positive correlation of all SF-36 scales with 6-minute walking distance (6MWD) and negative correlation of most scales with WHO functional class and NT-proBNP. EQ-5D-3L, CAMPHOR, PAH-SYMPACT and EmPHasis-10 scales moderately correlated with 6MWD and NT-proBNP, and almost all scales correlated with WHO class and echocardiography data. There were strong and moderate correlations between all SF-36 scales and VAS, EQ-5D-3L and special questionnaires.

CONCLUSION

QoL questionnaires may be used for comprehensive analysis of functional status in patients with precapillary PH.
