The objective of the present publication was to report the experience in the treatment of the patients presenting with varicose veins by means of endovasal laser ablation (EVLA) based at an outpatient facility. Material and methods. The results presented in the article have been obtained during the treatment of 235 patients (260 lower extremities) with the use of endovasal laser ablation. 238 (91.5%) and 22 (8.5%) interventions were performed in the great and small saphenous vein regions respectively. All the patients were categorized in accordance with the CEAP classification into the following groups: С2 (n=1), С3 (n=147), С4 (n=77), С5 (n=5) and С6 (n=5). EVLA was performed with the use of the apparatus operated at a wavelength of 1560 nm and a power of 10 W in a continuous regime under tumescent anesthesia. The interventions on 134 (45%) extremities were combined with miniphlebectomy; in those performed on 12 (4.6) extremities, EVLA was combined with miniphlebectomy and sclerotherapy. Results. Obliteration of the venous trunk was achieved in 100% of the cases. During the postoperative period, 2.7% of the patients complained of pain, 1.5% developed parasthesias, 27.7% presented with pronounced ecchymosis, and 0.7% with thrombosis of the femoral vein. The cases of phlebitis, deep venous thrombosis, and skin burns were not documented. Conclusion. Modern endovasal laser ablation produced 100% beneficial effect at all stages of the intervention for the treatment of each stage (С1—С6) of varicose vein disease provided the relevant operational requirements are fulfilled.
