The prospective observational study “Registry of the patients with chronic venous disease” (SPECTRUM) was initiated by the Russian Association of Phlebologists in 2011 with the object of investigating the structure of chronic venous diseases (CVD) in this country with reference to peculiarities of Russian phlebological practice. A total of 36 phlebologists from 25 cities were invited to participate in this project so as to maximally reflect the actual situation. The criteria for inclusion into the work group were the involvement of a given specialist in regular inspection of the patients presenting with phlebological problems, conduction of echo-scanning studies (individually or jointly with a specialist in ultrasound diagnostics), and being in touch with modern clinical methods. In order to exclude the influence of extraneous factors, each candidate had to successively treat 25 patients with chronic venous diseases. The data from a specially designed questionnaire including peculiarities of the patients’ medical histories, clinical and ultrasound findings, comprehensive diagnosis with the use of the CEAP classification, and recommendations of the phlebologist were added to the general database.
