The authors report the analysis of the general results obtained at the first stage of the prospective observational study "The registry of patients with chronic venous diseases" (SPECTRUM). It was shown that the group of patients visiting the clinic for specialized phlebological counseling and treatment was dominated by women. The mean age of the patients was 44.8 years (median 44 year), i.e. half of them were middle-aged subjects. Each patient presented with at least one risk factor of chronic venous disease (CVD). The nosological spectrum of CVD was characterized by the predominance of primary varicosis (71.9%) whereas the reticular varicosis/teleangiectasia as an isolated condition was diagnosed only in 21.1% of the cases. The occurrence of post-thrombotic disease and phlebodysplasia was 7.4% and 0.23% respectively. Varicose dilatation of subcutaneous veins was the most frequent objective symptom (72.1%) that prevailed over spider veins and reticular varicosis. Over one third of the patients (371.1%) presented with venous oedema. The incidence of trophic disorders and venous ulcers was as high as 14.4% and 3.4% respectively. On the whole, 350 (40.4%) patients exhibited the signs of chronic venous insufficiency (oedema, throphic disorders). The majority of the patients complained of the feeling of heaviness, fatigue, and venous pain. Practically all patients were prescribed compression therapy with the routine use of compression hosiery. Each 2 patients of the 3 were recommended systemic pharmacotherapy. More than 70% of the patients were offered one of the invasive treatments, such as phlebectomy, sclera- and thermo-obliteration.
