Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome is a universal critical state syndrome is caused by an overwhelming, uncontrolled systemic inflammatory response that is activated by a number of hostile stimuli including sepsis, hypovolemic shock and cardiopulmonary bypass. Despite the introduction of assessing the scoring systems for MOD, which include the instrumental and biochemical monitoring, diagnostic and prognostic significance of such scales is far from perfect. The use of biochemical markers MOD is the most promising with regard to the expansion of diagnostic possibilities and assess the severity of MODS prediction. The review provides an analysis of the proposed markers in terms of the reality of implementation as a bedside diagnostics.
