OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the role of intestinal microbiota on development of cardiovascular atherosclerotic diseases and colorectal cancer in an elderly patient.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

We present stage-by-stage treatment of multifocal aortic lesions and colorectal cancer in a patient over 75 years old with preoperative analysis of intestinal microbiota.

RESULTS

Our results regarding 16S rRNA sequencing confirmed the need for vigilance in relation to inflammatory processes and neoplasms in the intestine and cardiovascular diseases (lipometabolism, metabolic syndrome and obesity).

CONCLUSION

This case convincingly demonstrates the feasibility and necessity of intestinal microbiota analysis for differential diagnosis of intestinal metabolites responsible for development and progression of cardiovascular diseases and colorectal cancer in an elderly patient.
