In clinical practice, risk groups for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are most often revealed based on prognostic scales developed considering the known risk factors. However, CVD risk in the female population is often underestimated, and a large part of unfavorable cardiovascular events is observed in groups with low 10-year vascular risk. This evidences the need to search for new markers to improve the detection of subclinical forms of pathology.
To assess the connection between mammography parameters such as breast arterial calcification (BAC), breast density (BD), and CVD in women based on the literature data.
The review included data from foreign and domestic publications on the topic from 1995 to 2023, found in Pubmed and eLibrary.
Most studies in the analysis evidence an independent connection between BAC or BD and CVD in middle-aged and older women.
Breast arterial calcification and lower breast density are associated with cardiovascular diseases in women of +40 years and can be considered as potential cardiovascular risk markers in women.
