The pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection has had a global impact on all fields of medicine. Based on the data of numerous epidemiologic studies in the past years, it was expected that pregnant women would be categorized as high-risk group for severe course of the disease and obstetric complications. However, currently available data in the literature on the impact of coronavirus infection on perinatal outcomes are somewhat contradictory: there are debates about vertical transmission of the virus from mother to fetus, the presence of specific placental changes, etc. However, the unfavorable impact on fetal development due to progression of fetoplacental insufficiency in a large number of pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2 is beyond doubt. The article analyzes 9 cases of antenatal fetal death and one case of late neonatal death of a newborn whose mothers had a coronavirus infection at different gestational periods. Fetal lesions characteristic for COVID-19 detected during pathologoanatomic studies, possible mechanisms of their occurrence, and the most probable unfavorable outcomes depending on the trimester in which the pregnant woman was infected with SARS-CoV-2 virus are described.
