Abstract:

Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes can cause severe complications during pregnancy, labor and postnatal period. The incidence of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes is about 30 per 100 000 cases during pregnancy. Ischemic and/or hemorrhagic stroke may begin in pregnant women with atypical symptoms including headache, seizures, weakness in the limbs, dizziness, nausea, changes of behavior and visual symptoms characteristic of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia. All this creates difficulties for differential diagnosis, especially in hypertensive disorders, often observed during pregnancy, labor and postpartum period, so timely diagnosis of stroke symptoms can help in providing medical care to patients of this category.
