Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common diseases in endocrinological gynecology. Its etiology remains unclear. Clinical symptoms of PCOS include amenorrhea or oligo-menorrhea, hirsutism, acne, infertility that usually determine the main treatment directions. Nevertheless, the impact of PCOS on the future risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and their prevention in middle-aged women should not be overlooked. The pathogenesis of PCOS usually involves insulin resistance that leads to a range of cardiologic metabolic disorders (dyslipidemia, hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome), thereby placing women at increased risk of CVD development. In addition, PCOS is associated with depression and cancers of reproductive system in middle-aged women.
