MATERIAL AND METHODS

It was examined 166 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and infertility. The average age of the patients was 31.3±3.5 years. During patients’ examination the general clinical, bacteriological, and enzyme immunoassay methods were used, and the status of the endometrium was assessed according to the findings of a histological study.

RESULTS

Hysteroscopy with separate diagnostic curettage was performed in 117 patients. Endometrial pathology was not detected in 48 (41%) patients. In 6 women the hypo-plastic type of endometrium was determined. In 63 (53.8%) patients benign glandular fibrous, glandular fibrous polyps of the endometrium and/or endo-cervix, as well as various types of endometrial hyperplasia were observed. Among patients with hyperplastic processes in the endometrium, 73% (46 patients) were patients with menstrual cycle duration of more than 3 months; 54.3% of them were overweight or obese.

CONCLUSION

Patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility and menstrual periods of more than 3 months, i.e. with severe oligo-, amenorrhea, overweight or obesity, it is advisable to recommend hysteroscopy with separate diagnostic curettage before entering the extracorporeal fertilization program. Patients with normal body weight and menstrual periods of less than 3 months should undergo office hysteroscopy with endometrial biopsy.
