Endometriosis is a chronic disease with a steady upward trend in the frequency of occurrence among the women of reproductive age, often in severe form, with relapses of the disease and resistance to therapy. Endometriosius has an impact on physical and mental health with negativeinfluenceon aspects of social, family, sexual, educational and professional life of women, implying high financial costs for treatment. The association of endometriosis with a number of extragenital diseases has been shown. Endometriosis is often the cause of surgical interventions and can serve as the risk factor for the development of some forms of oncological diseases due to common pathogenetic mechanisms.
Considering the modern data about the course of endometriosis, increasing the knowledge of physicians about its frequent combination with other co-morbidities contributes to a personalized approach, both in the treatment and prevention of the disease.
Close cooperation of a multidisciplinary team and continuity between obstetrician-gynecologists and doctors of other specialties will contribute topreserving of the reproductive potential of women, reducing surgical interventions and some forms of cancer.
