The purpose of this investigation was to study the efficiency and safety of using prostaglandin E2 (PG E2) intracervically to prepare the cervix uteri for labor in pregnant women with a postcesarean uterine scar. The investigation enrolled 98 pregnant women with a uterine scar and 61 with no scar in the presence of the immature and insufficiently mature cervix uteri at 40-41 weeks gestation. The pregnant women were divided into 3 groups according to the presence of uterine scar and labor induction using PG E2. The maternal and fetal outcomes of labor were statistically analyzed. The comparative analysis of labor outcomes in women with a postcesarean uterine scar could reveal a decrease in cesarean section rates during labor induction with dinoprostone in the presence of the insufficiently mature cervix uteri. The performed studies showed the efficacy of intracervical PG E2 gel in the preparation of the maternal passages and successful labor and delivery in two-thirds of the patients with a uterine scar after cesarean section.
