The course of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum was studied; a comprehensive clinical and laboratory study was conducted in 100 pregnant women with metabolic syndrome (MS). According to the degree of obesity, all the pregnant women were divided into 3 subgroups: 1) 60 women with first-degree obesity; 2) 28 with second-degree obesity; 3) 12 with third-degree obesity. The pregnant women with MS were more frequently found to have gestosis, fetoplacental insufficiency, threatening preterm birth, and gestational diabetes mellitus. Complications, such as prenatal amniorrhea, primary and secondary uterine inertia, powerless labor, or shoulder dystocia, more commonly developed in patients with MS and third-degree obesity. The latter were more often to have chronic intrauterine hypoxia, amniotic fluid aspiration, fetal and neonatal CNS ischemic-hypoxic lesion. A laboratory study ascertained that all the women had diminished renal excretory function as their body weight increased and the pregnancy period was longer.
