Nursing outcomes were evaluated in 100 extremely low birth weight (ELBW) neonates. Mortality rates were 54.8 and 11.5% in the 500-749 and 750-999 g weight groups, respectively. In terms of the onset of death, in Group 1, mortality rates in the first week of life was 5 times higher than those in Group 2 and 13 times higher than those at more than 28 days of age. The efficiency of nursing care of ELBW infants was confirmed to be linked to the degree of disorders associated with the prematurity of a baby and the possibilities of institutional treatment and rehabilitation.
