Myocardial infarction (MI) and acute cerebrovascular accident (ACVA) are common causes of morbidity and mortality over the world. This determines the relevance of searching for factors associated with adverse outcomes in the specified conditions. There is a lack of data on the influence of staff resources in medical organizations on mortality from MI and ACVA.

OBJECTIVE

To analyze the accociations of parameters between hospital mortality from MI and ACVA with staffing.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The data on the number of specialists and calculated parameters of mortality from the forms of federal statistical observation №30 «Information about the medical organization» and №14 «Information about the activity of the medical organization providing medical care in hospital conditions» were considered. Two regression models were used in statistical analysis to evaluate associations between parameters. Results appearing in both models were considered statistically significant at p<0.05.

RESULTS

The mortality from MI was associated with an increase in bed capacity per cardiologist (coefficient 3.405, p<0.001), and higher mortality from ACVA was related to a smaller number of all doctors in hospital (coefficient –0.009, p<0.016) in two regression models of different types.

CONCLUSION

The higher number of patients per cardiologist is independently associated with the increased mortality from myocardial infarction. The mortality from acute cerebrovascular accident is related to decreased number of doctors in hospital.
