The review article puts emphasis on that there are now no unified standards for antihypertensive therapy in pregnant women. Antihypertensive therapy is considered to assure reliable blood pressure (BP) monitoring, to promote prolongation of pregnancy, and to decrease the risk of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. At the same time inadequate antihypertensive therapy or incorrect dose adjustment can lower BP, which may give rise to maternal-placental circulatory and fetal hemodynamic disorders. When antihypertensive therapy is given, its efficiency should be monitored by not only BP levels, but also by uterine-placental blood flow changes.
