Central hemodynamic (CH) changes were studied in 280 pregnant women at 5-7 to 37-41 weeks gestation, by using the continuous blind screening during a follow-up. A control group comprised 48 women with physiological singleton pregnancy. Hypokinetic hemodynamics that reflected relative hypovolemia was found to be typical of not only pregnant women with preeclampsia, but it was detected in premature labor and fetal growth retardation. CH changes in both the first and second halves of pregnancy may be useful for the rather accurate prognosis of complications of pregnancy (preeclampsia, prematurity, fetal growth retardation) and its outcomes to the mother and newborn.
