The paper systematizes current knowledge about the problem of jaundice in pregnant women. It is emphasized that it is conventional to classify jaundices into two large groups: those caused by pregnancy complications (intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, acute hepatic fatty dystrophy of pregnancy, jaundice in the presence of severe forms of gestosis, jaundice in hyperemesis gravidarum) and those associated with extragenital diseases developing during or before pregnancy (viral, drug-induced, or toxic hepatitides, obstructive jaundice, some infections, hemolytic anemias, etc.). Attention is given to the fact that ursosan (ursodeoxycholic acid) should be used as an essential pathogenetic agent in pregnant women with intrahepatic cholestasis.
