The psychopathological disorders in the patients presenting with the injuries to the maxillofacial region are known to be associated with the enhanced frequency of postoperative complications, repeated injuries, and the dissatisfaction of the patients with the results of the treatment. Objective. To study dynamics of the clinical characteristics and the co-morbid psychic disorders in the patients suffering acute post-traumatic pathology of the maxillofacial region during the pre-traumatic and postoperative periods. Material and methods. A total of 110 patients presenting with acute post-traumatic deformation of the maxillofacial region were available for the examination after they had been admitted to our clinic during the period from 2010 till 2013. The main methods employed in the present work included instrumental, psychometric, clinical, and psychopathological studies. Results. The injuries to the maxillofacial region most frequently occurred in the patients presenting with personality disorders and in those suffering from endogenous psychic diseases with the priority affective signs and symptoms. The catamnestic studies have demonstrated the absence of the appreciable influence of the past injury on the dynamics of the psychopathological and pathocharacteristic disorders in the patients presenting with pathological changes in the maxillofacial region. Conclusion. The data obtained in the present study provide a basis for the development of the practical recommendations on the introduction of the psychotherapeutic and preventive measures and medications for the management of the patients with maxillofacial injuries and of the differential surgical techniques for their treatment and rehabilitation taking into consideration the poor compliance of the patients with the prescribed therapy and the high probability of repeated injuries.
