JUSTIFICATION

The epidemic situation and military confrontation have transformed children’s full-time education into a remote format in many regions of our country. Due to the abrupt transition to remote learning, many aspects of its impact on a child’s development are understudied.

OBJECTIVE

Evaluate the effectiveness of the health-improving program aimed at improving the quality of life of primary schoolchildren on remote learning.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The quality of life of primary schoolchildren was assessed using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory PedsQL 4.0^TM international questionnaire. The study included 182 children on remote learning for 5 months. The main group (79 subjects) consisted of primary schoolchildren on remote learning included in the health-improving program; the control group consisted of primary schoolchildren on remote learning not included in the health-improving program for various reasons (103 subjects).

RESULTS

Health-improving activities we developed for primary schoolchildren on remote learning contributed to improving their quality of life regardless of gender. Changes in quality of life indicators after the health-improvement program are more pronounced in males in terms of physical functioning (Δ=17.2; p=0.026) and in females in terms of emotional functioning (Δ=16.3; p=0.016) and social functioning (Δ=13.6; p=0.024).

CONCLUSIONS

Health-improving activities contribute to improving the quality of life of primary schoolchildren on remote learning.
