Breast cancer (BC) occupies a leading position in the structure of the malignant neoplasia incidence in women. In Russia the examination and treatment of patients with malignant neoplasms (MN) of the mammary glands (MG) is carried out at the expense of the state budget. In this regard the analysis of the epidemiological parameters of the medical care provision to breast cancer patients is an important section of healthcare management in terms of assessing, optimizing and planning the required budgetary funding for the examination and treatment of this contingent of patients.
OBJECTIVE
Analyze the dynamics of changes in the key epidemiological parameters in breast cancer in St. Petersburg.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A retrospective cohort study was carried out. The data on breast cancer cases in female residents of St. Petersburg in 2011—2018 were analyzed. Statistical processing was carried out using the programs Statistica 12.0 for Windows, «Population Cancer Registry».
RESULTS
In 2018 the incidence of breast cancer in St. Petersburg was 58.580/0000. The prevalence of malignant neoplasm of breast during the analyzed period turned out to be higher than the all-Russian indicator by 19.3%. In 2018 breast cancer in women of working age was verified 16.6% more often than in 2011. The proportion of breast cancer detection in stage I—II in 2011—2018 increased by 1.2 times reaching 72.2% in 2018. In 2018 the 5-year survival rate of breast cancer patients in St. Petersburg was 63.4%.
CONCLUSION
Assessment of the main epidemiological parameters in breast cancer cases allows to state positive trends in the work of medical organizations in St. Petersburg aimed at fighting cancer. The increase in the incidence of breast cancer at tendency towards a decrease in the number of surgical interventions suggests the need to optimize the financing volume of medical care provided to patients with breast cancer in St. Petersburg primarily in the format of its high-tech types.
