Abstract:

Chronic pelvic pain is the most common symptom of endometriosis.

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the effectiveness of amitriptyline for chronic pelvic pain associated with endometriosis.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A comparative analysis of the results of examination and treatment of 60 women (18—45 years old) with a histologically verified diagnosis of endometriosis and suffering from chronic pelvic pain was carried out. Patients, depending on the treatment received, were divided into three groups: group 1 — 22 women who received dienogest 2 mg; group 2 — 20 women who received dienogest and an antidepressant; group 3 — 18 women who underwent only surgical treatment.

RESULTS

Against the background of the therapy, the severity of chronic pelvic pain in patients of group 2 who took amitriptyline decreased by 4 points according to VAS. Depression was absent in 19 (95%) patients of group 2, compared to 6 (27.3%) in group 1. The level of quality of life and sexual function in patients of group 2 by the end of 3 months of treatment was higher than in patients of groups 1 and 3. Conclusion. Amitriptyline has demonstrated effectiveness in relieving chronic pain in endometriosis
