Currently, there is little data on the peculiarities of the course of pregnancy and its outcomes in women who have undergone COVID-19, depending on the time of infection and the severity of the disease.
Assessment of the course and outcomes of pregnancy in patients who have had COVID-19 of varying severity at different gestation periods.
152 birth histories of women who underwent COVID-19 during pregnancy were analyzed. All of them were not vaccinated. Subgroups were identified depending on the gestation period at the time of infection and the severity of the disease.
With the disease in the first trimester, COVID-19 was more often easy, and medium and severe forms were mainly found at the end of pregnancy. Diseases of the cardiovascular system and obesity are more often noted in the subgroup with a severe course of infection. The threat of premature birth, preeclampsia and gestational diabetes were more common in women who had overweight COVID-19, compared with the general population. The threat of premature birth and impaired placental function were more often observed in patients infected in the first trimester, compared with the subgroup of the third trimester. Premature birth occurred more often in women who had an infection in the first trimester easily or asymptomatically compared to those who had a moderate form of the disease in the third trimester. Among pregnant women who have had severe COVID-19, a high number of cases of delivery by caesarean section were noted. The main changes in the health status of children born to mothers who had COVID-19 were determined by their gestational age and complications of the gestational process.
With the disease in the first trimester, COVID-19 was more often mild or asymptomatic. The severity of COVID-19 increased towards the end of pregnancy. The comorbid background of severe COVID-19 in pregnant women was obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Placental disorders and the threat of premature birth often complicated the course of pregnancy in women who had COVID-19 in the first trimester. Premature birth and delivery by caesarean section in patients who had COVID-19 during pregnancy were more common than in the general population. The data obtained confirm the benefits of vaccination of women during pregnancy planning and during it to reduce the risks to the health of mother and child.
