AIM OF THE STUDY

To compare obstetric and perinatal outcomes of pregnancies resulting from ART and spontaneous pregnancies in women of the older age group within the same city maternity hospital.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

In a prospective study conducted in the city maternity hospital No. 10, St. Petersburg, from January to July 2019, outcomes were compared in 76 patients with pregnancy resulting from ART and 79 patients with spontaneous pregnancy. All patients were over 29 years of age.

RESULTS

The ART group had a higher number of twins, OR=26.0 95% CI, 3.4—199.9, and preeclampsia, OR=2.4, 95% CI, 1.1—5.7. The mean age of delivery after ART was 37.9±0.3 weeks compared to the control group 39.1±0.3 weeks, p<0.001. Also, in the ART group, births performed by caesarean section were more often observed, 61.6%, compared with the control group — 32.9%, p<0.001. Also, newborns in the ART group were more likely to have prematurity, low and extremely low birth weight, respiratory disorders, and heart abnormalities.

CONCLUSIONS

The main reason for worse obstetric and perinatal outcomes in the ART group is twin births, as well as a higher incidence of preeclampsia.
