Abstract:

The last decades have been characterized by an increase in the incidence of melanoma worldwide. Melanoma is the most common cancer during pregnancy. Melanoma and pregnancy became one of the main topics of discussion. Current knowledge about pregnancy and melanoma is characterized by many contradictions and discrepancies. The actual incidence of melanoma in childbearing age and the effect of pregnancy on the prognosis of melanoma are still unclear. Amelanotic melanoma (AM) is one of the great masquerades in oncology, an extremely rare and aggressive tumor. This is a very difficult clinical diagnosis because these tumors are devoid of pigment and other signs of melanoma. We report the case of a 33-year-old woman with amelanotic malignant melanoma diagnosed for the first time during pregnancy. Interdisciplinary observation of obstetricians and oncologists made it possible to give birth to a healthy baby at the 37th week of pregnancy by means of a planned caesarean section. The identification by histological and immunochemical studies of amelanotic melanoma in combination with wide resection of the tumor was the key to improving the patient’s quality of life.
