Abstract:

According to up-to-date, it is established that up to 10% of breast cancer (BC) cases are associated with mutation carriage in one or another gene. The main role among the genes that increase the risks of breast cancer today is given to the group of BRCA genes. In addition to increasing the risk of breast cancer, this gene is also linked to an increased risk of ovarian cancer. Modern methods for assessing the genetic status of a patient make it possible to study this group of genes in detail and to identify different mutations. In this connection, physicians face a serious task of elaborating treatment policy (a follow-up or surgical prevention) for this group of women. The most effective method for preventing the development of breast cancer is prophylactic mastectomy. The paper describes a clinical case of bilateral prophylactic mastectomy with simultaneous reconstruction in a patient with a compromised family history and BRCA1 gene mutation. Routine morphological examination diagnosed carcinoma in situ. Thus, it is expedient to surgically prevent breast cancer in the presence of BRCA gene mutations.
