Abstract:

The article discusses the options for simultaneous reconstruction of the mammary gland, performed after radical subcutaneous / skin-protective mastcotomy in cancer.

AIM OF STUDY

Improving the quality of life of patients with breast cancer by introducing into practice functional-sparing reconstructive-plastic surgeries using an acellular dermal matrix or synthetic implant.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The study included 91 patients with breast cancer: group 1 (n=49) — patients with breast cancer who underwent reconstructive plastic surgery using the acellular dermal matrix (ADM) and a synthetic implant and additional material in the form of pectoralis major muscle; Group 2 (n=42) — patients with breast cancer who underwent reconstructive plastic surgery using ADM and a synthetic implant without additional intersection of the pectoralis major muscle.

RESULTS

There is a clear improvement in the quality of life of patients in group 2 in almost all parameters of the Breast-Q questionnaire.

CONCLUSION

Biological and synthetic materials are essential components used in breast reconstruction. They become adequate substitutes for autologous muscle flaps, if patients are correctly selected for surgery.
