Abstract:

The paper deals with the state-of-the-art of diagnosis and treatment in children with cutaneous melanoma. It presents the long-term results of treatment in children with cutaneous melanoma in the Republic of Belarus in 1991 to 2011. A total of 23 children were treated. All the children underwent tumor excision; three children additionally received chemotherapy and/or biotherapy and radiotherapy. One patient was given courses of adjuvant chemotherapy with whole body hyperthermia. Ten-year event-free survival rate was 90%. The author's experience suggests that the results of treatment are much better in children than in adults; wide excision of cutaneous melanoma is the method of choice in the treatment of its non-metastatic form. Chemotherapy and/or biotherapy, as well as radiotherapy may be used to treat metastatic forms of the disease.
