OBJECTIVE

To study causes of manifestation and features of severe AD in children aged 13—17 years old.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The main group included 350 children with AD aged 13—17 years, and the comparison group included 350 children of similar age, health group I—II, without allergic disorders. We analyzed the data from forms No. 025/u-04, «Outpatient medical record», and No. 003/u, «Inpatient medical record,» as well as the results of interviews and survey of patients and their parents at the Republican Children’s Teaching Hospital and the Republican Dermatovenerologic Dispensary of the Ministry of Health of the Udmurt Republic. The comparison group included students of schools No. 64, 74, 76 of Izhevsk. During the study, we used analytical, statistical research methods and the method of current observation; data processing was performed using MS Office Excel 2007 spreadsheets and Statistica 10 software.

RESULTS

Severe AD in children aged 13—17 years is characterized by the early manifestation of the disease, caused by formula feeding, a high rate of infections, and frequent antibiotic therapy from the first year of life. The causes of AD manifestation in children are alimentary, drug and infection-related; the course features in patients of 13—17 years are related to the period of the first manifestation.

CONCLUSION

Prevention of severe AD requires the involvement of physicians of other specialties and raising awareness among parents about the causes of severe AD.
