Endometriosis is a gynaecological disease characterised by the presence of tissue with morphological and functional properties similar to endometrium outside the uterine cavity. This pathology affects about 10% of women of reproductive age worldwide and currently has no established etiology. The true prevalence of EM in adolescence remains unknown, varies depending on the inclusion criteria for each study and the diagnostic methods used and, unlike in premenopausal women, can range from 19% to 100% of cases, according to different authors. Developmental anomalies of the female genital organs account for 3—7% in the structure of gynaecological diseases in children and adolescents. The possibility of combining congenital pathology with the presence of EM should cause special vigilance of gynaecologists when examining adolescent girls.
