According to the definition of the World Health Organization, the term «quality of life» covers such aspects as physical, social, and psycho-emotional health of an individual’s perception of their position in life, while the health-related quality of life is a concept combining health status and life-sustaining environment. Psoriatic arthritis (PA) is a multifaceted disease associated with both joint (musculoskeletal damage) and extra-articular signs and symptoms. Quality of life in PA is significantly reduced due to the disease impact on the patient functional capacity, psychological and social spheres of life. The major issues for patients are pain, mobility limitation, disability, separation from work, fatigue, sleep disorders, anxiety. The causal relationships of quality-of-life changes in PA are complex and diverse. Some of these aspects important to patients are covered by the recently updated set of PA key impact areas (OMERACT, 2016). A better quality-of-life assessment will contribute to improved quality of care in PA. This article explores the main PA impact areas on quality of life, issues of high priority for patients, and directions for further clinical studies.
