The previously published results of experimental and clinical studies, as well as our obtained data showed the possibility of therapeutic plasmapheresis application to correct aging biomarkers in blood. One of the most important criteria for effectiveness of used therapy is patients’ satisfaction with conducted treatment.
OBJECTIVE
To assess life quality, psychoemotional state and factors that influence health-saving behavior using SF-36, «Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile» questionnaires and the test of differential self-assessment of HAM (health, activity, mood) functional state in patients aged 40—60 years who received therapeutic plasmapheresis in a day-patient department.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The study included 60 patients of both sexes aged 40—60 years with elevated level of one or more aging biomarkers in the blood. The number of groups equal 3 consisting of 20 persons in each have been formed: the 1st group — patients received therapeutic plasmapheresis with albumin replacement; the 2nd group — patients received therapeutic plasmapheresis without albumin replacement; the 3rd group (control) — patients without treatment. The patients of the 1st and 2nd groups were performed 4 plasmapheresis procedures with 30% volume of plasma circulation elimination with or without albumin replacement. Patients filled independently SF-36, «Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile» and HAM questionnaires before treatment, as well as 30 days after initiation of therapeutic plasmapheresis.
RESULTS
The survey of patients in the 1st and 2nd groups was carried out 30 days after plasmapheresis course. Statistically significant improvement of physical and mental health components, as well as indicators of life quality by the following scales of SF-36 questionnaire, namely physical functioning, bodily pain, general health, social functioning and role-emotional compared to baseline data and similar indicators in subjects of control group, have been showed. Statistically significant increase of indicators by the following scales of «Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile» questionnaire, namely physical activity, spiritual growth and stress management, as well as by the general scale has been established in patients of both groups after plasmapheresis course. Higher grades in scores according to the whole scales of HAM questionnaire have been noted 30 days after treatment compared to baseline data and similar indicators in subjects of control group.
CONCLUSION
The course of therapeutic plasmapheresis positively influenced on indicators of life quality, psychoemotional state and healthy lifestyle adherence in patients aged 40—60 years according to the survey data with the use of SF-36, «Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile» and HAM questionnaires.
