OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of atopic dermatitis therapy, taking into account the SCORAD index and skin thickness in children receiving medical cosmetics in various ways.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
30 children aged 6 months to 10 years (average age of 3.8±1.28 years), 41% of them boys and 59% of girls with atopic dermatitis were included in the study. We divided the patients depending on the method of application of external therapy into 3 groups: the 1st group (n=10) received xemose balm, the 2nd group (n=10) received xemose balm in combination with wet wraps, the 3rd group (n=10) received xemose balm in combination with wet wraps using Uriage thermal water. Before treatment, after 14 and 28 days of therapy, the clinical condition of all groups of patients was determined based on the calculation of the SCORAD index, subjective symptoms such as the intensity of itching and sleep disturbances using visual analog scales. To objectively assess the effectiveness of therapy, the thickness of the skin in the area of rashes was determined before treatment and after 28 days of therapy by ultrasound examination of the skin using an ultrasound scanner DUB Cutis with a 22 MHz sensor TABERNA PRO MEDICUM, GmbH, Germany.
RESULTS
Decrease of the SCORAD index was revealed while evaluating the results of treatment after 14 and 28 days in three groups, the most pronounced clinical effectiveness was observed in 3-rd group of patients who used xemose balm in combination with wet wraps with Uriage thermal water. There was a significant decrease after 28 days of treatment in skin thickness in the study areas in patients of all groups, with the highest percentage of skin thickness reduction observed in patients of the 3-rd group. A significant decrease in the intensity of itching and improvement in the quality of night sleep was revealed in all the study groups, while achieving the absence of itching and complete recovery of night sleep was successful in patients of the 3-rd group.
CONCLUSION
Decrease of SCORAD index is the key result of the study and sign of clinical effectiveness. It was shown reducing the thickness of the skin and severity of pruritus. We improved quality of sleep in patients who were assigned xemose balm in combination with wet wraps with Uriage thermal water as external therapy.
