Abstract:

Due to the increase in life expectancy, elderly patients suffering from various types of eczema complicated by secondary bacterial and/or fungal infection are increasingly turning to visit a dermatovenerologist.

THE PURPOSE

Evaluation of the effectiveness of therapy for eczema with secondary infection in elderly patients using a combination drug betamethasone+gentamicin+clotrimazole in the form of cream and ointment.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

100 patients aged 60—90 years was examined. To assess the effectiveness of the therapy, the dermatological status was described in detail using the EASI. Before and after therapy, patients determined the intensity of itching using a visual analogue 10-point scale (VAS).

RESULTS

High clinical efficacy of therapy with the use of the combined drug betamethasone+gentamicin+clotrimazole in the form of a cream or ointment was established in 100% of patients. The first clinical effect was noted already on the 1st day after the start of treatment. The tolerability of the cream and ointment betamethasone+gentamicin+clotrimazole was excellent in 100% of patients. No serious side effects were reported in the study.

CONCLUSIONS

The use of cream and ointment betamethasone+gentamicin+clotrimazole allows for highly effective and safe external therapy in elderly patients with eczema with secondary infection.
