According to the American Cancer Society, basal cell carcinoma (BCC) accounts for about 80% of all cases of diagnosed skin cancers. Ultraviolet radiation, including sunburns in early childhood, is believed to be the main provoking factor of BCC. The risk factors also include a light skin type (Fitzpatrick phototypes I and II), red hair, family history of skin cancer, male gender, intoxication with heavy metals and arsenic, and ionizing radiation [1]. The article presents a clinical case of a female patient with a light skin phototype and an atypical localization of BCC undiagnosed for a long time, with attention paid to problems of the early diagnosis and treatment when the epidemiological situation of BCC has a general tendency towards worsening.
