Atopic dermatitis is a chronic immuno-dependent disease that develops in individuals with genetic predisposition toward atopy. It is characterized by a relapsing-remitting course, age-dependent clinical manifestations and hypersensitivity to specific (allergens) and nonspecific irritants. Hence, the therapy should take into account the severity of inflammation symptoms and a proper corticosteroid drug and its form should be chosen. Special attention should be paid to treat skin of patients with atopic dermatitis. Preference should be given to medications containing substances that can maintain normal skin moisture level and pH. The data on using a topical glucocorticosteroid in children at different stages of atopic dermatitis are presented. It is reasonable to use topic glucocorticosteroid (Advantan) as an emulsion or cream during the acute phase of the pathological processes; while an ointment should be used in patients with chronic atopic dermatitis. Combination therapy using Advantan and Bepanthen (skin care products) allows one to achieve stable remission and prevent relapses of atopic dermatitis.
