Botulinotherapy is a direction of medicine studying the mechanisms of action of botulinum toxin preparations and justifies its use to treat various diseases, as well as for the aesthetic correction of signs of aging. It is the latter indication that is the most popular one in the cosmetological practice. The article presents results of clinical comparative randomized study of efficacy and safety of Botulaks , a new medication containing botulinum toxin, as compared to Botox. The study involved 100 apparently healthy volunteers aged 23 to 65 years (43.69±1.55 years). Efficacy and safety of Botulaks was assessed according to the laboratory data (clinical and biochemical blood tests and urinalysis) and instrumental methods (Photomacrography and 3D-modeling) methods, as well as clinical study methods (medical assessment of severity of wrinkles at rest and in a state of maximum frown, self-evaluation by the patient, and satisfaction with the procedure). Statistical analysis was performed using Statistika 6.0 software package with parametric and non-parametric analysis. The results of the study have proved high efficacy of the drug with respect to correction of facial wrinkles. The efficacy is completely identical to that of the drug Botox.
