Inflammatory intestinal diseases, such as non-specific ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, share many common features, viz. immunopathological genesis with obscure etiology, similar clinical manifestations, and extraintestinal complications including skin lesions. The prevalence, clinical symptoms, differential diagnosis, and general principles of treatment of these conditions are briefly reviewed. A case of non-specific ulcerative colitis is reported presenting with cutaneous co-morbidity in the form of alopecia and lichenoid dermatitis.
